Orientation Resources

When it comes to making a smooth transition to becoming a student at Georgia Tech, there are events, programs, and resources you'll want to take advantage of.

Fall 2020 GradExpo: August 13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. EDT

Every August, we host the GradExpo resource fair to help new graduate students learn about campus services and student organizations. The fall 2020 GradExpo will be held virtually from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 13 via a platform called Gatherly (a Georgia Tech startup). You can enter GradExpo through the GradIO Canvas site. Be sure you are enrolled in that site to get access to the event (see enrollment instructions below). We will make more announcements about GradExpo access in Canvas.

Fall 2020 Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO)

In addition to the orientation that your individual program might hold (which you should attend), Graduate Studies hosts several orientation sessions prior to the start of classes to introduce you to campuswide resources and policies. New students have two options to attend orientation:

  • Attend one of several live, virtual orientation sessions. To view the available orientation sessions, the associated access links, and to register, visit the registration page (GT login required).
  • Access an asynchronous virtual orientation via Canvas, Tech's Learning Management System. To access this resource, log into the Canvas Learning Management System and look for a course titled “Graduate Institute Orientation (GradIO).” If you do not see this course available, you can self-enroll by clicking the link below.

Welcome to Tech Videos

We've also created a series of Welcome to Tech videos to help you familiarize yourself with our office and all that Tech has to offer.

Grad Groups (GT6000)

We also coordinate an extended orientation program during the fall semester called "Grad Groups." If you're a new graduate student looking to meet other students from across campus, this program is perfect for you. Learn from an older graduate student about what it takes to be successful at Tech and get exposure to campus departments who are here to serve your needs.

Graduate Student Welcome

Beginning in August 2018, Tech hosted its first Graduate Student Welcome for all new graduate students. The event includes a convocation followed by the Graduate Student Picnic. The 2020 Grad Welcome will be held on August 21. As additional details are released, we'll include them here.
